December, 2007 ~~ NASHVILLE, TN
As the year comes to a close I'm proud to announce that my newest song "Silent Night" is the lead-off track of Red Beet Records' Cd 'YULETIDE FROM THE OTHER SIDE: More Music from East Nashville'. It's a song I wrote about that Seasonal fave, about my family, and about all the amazing musicians that get out there on the road to do the music no matter what. 2007 has been the strangest, toughest, and most rewarding year of my life. Please keep Amy Beth and Walker, Tim and Linda and Sam and all the folks that knew and loved Buck Jones in your thoughts and prayers. And what about 2008? Maybe a new record, more new songs, more radio, and you can count on me getting out there on the road to do the music-- no matter what. As my pal Teddy would say--
peace and love,
jb

JON BYRD'S 3rd Annual FCHS Music Program Benefit Another Roaring Success!
"BYRD'S AUTO PARTS" and Many Special Guests appeared in Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday, August 26. 2007~~
This show is a fundraiser organized to benefit my old high school music program located in FRISCO CITY, ALABAMA a small, rural town of about 1400 folks located in south Alabama. Today FRISCO CITY HIGH SCHOOL, like many small high schools, often struggles to keep its band program going. This was a beautiful evening of great friends offering a little help to a band program that's partially responsible for why I do music today, and why I love it so much. Much hat-passing or should I say "Frisco City Whippet Book Satchel" passing ensured and eveyone responded with amazing generousity! ALL proceeds (We raised more than last year, always out goal, and sent the monies off the next day to help with the new school year) went directly to the school band program!
Here is the list of pals who graciously performed:
Mike Cullison, Suzette Lawrence, Teddy Larkin, Ben Blankenship, Mike Kearns, Chris Richards and Dawn McCoy Shawn Byrne, Jubal Young, Kylie Harris, Adam Landry and Carey Kotsionis: The Sways, Davis Raines, Jimmy Barret, Milan Miller, Eric Brace, Peter Cooper, Tony Laiolo, Brian Langlinais, Michael Kelsh, Stephen Simmons, Nathan Spears, Mark Huff, and finally "JON BYRD and BYRD'S AUTO PARTS"! WHEW!
Thanks to everyone for their kindness and encouragement. Just wait'll next year!

After Milan Miller and I finished my first full-length recording, "BYRD'S AUTO PARTS"-- we decided to spend the Spring of '07 sending it to carefully selected press and radio outlets. This resulted in some great reviews, a spin on BBC 2 and many European stations and webcasts, and just simply getting the word out about a CD which I think succeeds in incorporating original songs and favorite covers in a way that reflects the musical variety and good fun of an AUTO PARTS show. In July, with the help of Americana Radioman (and 20-year-friend) AL MOSS, we released "BYRD'S AUTO PARTS" to AMERICANA RADIO. It has slowly gained momentum and we continue to add spins and more importantly, friends!

Fourth of July Week in Texas...
was a beautiful thang thanks to Davis Raines, Walt Wilkins and the Mystiqueros, Brian Langlinais & Kye Kennedy, Kent Finlay, Ace Ford and Warden Dave. July 2, 3, 4, & 6 w/ DAVIS RAINES @ The Mean Eyed Cat - Austin /?? - Marble Falls / 4th of July Celebration in - Luckenbach / Poor David's Pub - Dallas~~
My first trip to Texas since that fateful night, as the poets say. It could only have happened with the grace and peace that it did with my rock of a friend, Davis Raines. Yes, we visited the terrible place of Buck's demise and affirmed our love for Buck and our commitment to carry on with the music he loved and lived for.
thanks Davis, and all my beautiful friends.

Monday, March 26
Dear Friends,
All my education and experience fail me now when I need to find the words to express my broken heart. The Nashville music community lost a great young man when Buck Jones passed from this earth early Saturday morning, March 17. I lost a great friend and music partner and I can only say that I will never forget his love of life, love of music, and his total commitment to sharing them with anyone he came in contact with. Whether we were playing at Tootsie's, a wedding, the Country Music Hall of Fame, or a Texas horse barn, Buck never hedged on his talent or his generosity of spirit. He embraced every moment. Honestly, I didn't always have the same openness and optimism Buck did, but I loved it in him. I couldn't help it. Nobody could. Maybe because they weren't guidelines or rules or the result of some cold philosophy or self-help book. It was him. Simply the way he lived. The ardent love for his wife AmyBeth, and his new baby Walker never came across treacly or saccharin. His sincerity was too overpoweringly genuine. The best thing you can say about someone is that they make you a better person. That's all I'm trying to say about Buck Jones.
